John Wayne Gacy Autograph history or not?

I recently was given a autograph from a friend in Illinois, USA. It is a John Wayne Gacy autograph, "The Clown Serial Killer." Her father had been incarcerated with him in a IL. State Prison. I do not consider him a heroe or a good guy! I feel for the victims and their families. Although I do not like the man, I do respect it is a aprt of our history in the USA. I would not have bought it, but I accepted it to my collection. Is this a bad decision or a good piece of history? I was just curious! The daughter told me her dad spoke of him being a homosexual with always having cell full of young men around him. This was given to her dad the day he was executed on a post it in his cell.

I wouldn't see why you wouldn't be able to accept it. He is indeed a part of the United States notorious criminal history, such as Al Capone, Charles Manson, and others known for their respective criminalistic acts. I consider him a societal figure, albeit a negative one, who many students actually study in university textbooks.

This is always a touchy issue...But I agree with your sentiments. Obviously I do not condone what he did, and out of respect for the victims, I would not purchase such an autograph. However, that's quite a story you have concerning how it was obtained. For that alone I think it's worth having in your collection. As you said, like it or not, he is a part of history.
If it was offered to me, I would have accepted it as well. Despite any ensuing criticism...

Thanks for the input. I mean I am glad to have it and I'm not you know. I would not turn down a Al Capone or a Manson signature either. I wish it would have been a painting of a clown or something! The girl I got it from, she seen I collected autographs, and asked if I wanted it and went and dug out of family picture album her dad had kept. She said she had a couple opportunityies to get paintings from him, but declined because he scared her. I was like I totally understand the creepiness of that. She told me she thought she knew someone that had a scribbling done by him and would get it for me as well next time she sees them.

Did you realize that Gacy KILLED dozens of young men and buried them in the floorboards of his house? Oh yeah, he also had a "collection" of their male "anatomy" in a cigar box.

Now you ask if this is an autograph worth keeping? The answer should be simple. NO.

Well I do not think he was a angel, but in fact consider him evil. I do not console in profitting from murder or criminal actions, but he is dead and not benefiting at all. Should we just forget it ever happened and file away in a book somewhere? I am glad to have something this rare in my collection now. I look at it now as a way for future generations to be able to place a real life object to a name in a book and realize it really did happen and was very bad! I feel we need to remember the past to avoid repeating in the future. I haven't and do not plan on persueing criminal signatures, but when given one rare as this I had to accept it.

Only keep it is you are comfortable having it. It is a rare signature of a historical crime figure, so I understand why some people would want it. Autograph collecting is about fun and what we want to collect. If it doesn't fit in with what you like then give it back to your friend.
