Good tips. I, personally, like to write my letter more formal. I like it all divided in subparagraphs, looks very neat.

Example;

Dear (Miss/Misses/Mister/Name person),

(Introduce yourself)
-----------------------
(Tell the person how much you appreciate his or her work)
----------------------
(Wish them all the best)
----------------------
(Ask if there's a possibility to send an autograph)
---------------------
(Thanks him or her in advance)
--------------------
Yours Sincerely/Sincerely/Yours/With kind regards
--------------------
(Your name followed by your address)

:) Hope I helped!

Can we send in a pictures of ourselves?

the best tip I have found is don't be vague about their work, but on the other hand don't make it look like you have been through their rubbish bags either as it would be a bit creepy if someone knows everything about your every move. I always ask a few questions about films that they have turned down and wish they hadn't things like that. Do your research. Sites like this have helped me as you learn who signs and who doesn't saves a lot of time and money.
The biggest tip is NEVER give up and be VERY patient as they are busy people and recieve hundreds of letters a day.

hope this is of some use.

I think when it says make the letter peronal to you it means try make it different from everyone elses. make it personal to the star you are writing to so they know your not just sending a form letter. if you want to explain how this person's carreer has made you feel or has helped you in a certain way then that's fine. I'd make sure you get straight to the point and tell them why and how it's affected you personally. Don't know if that helped, it's a difficult question. In most cases the celebrity we're writing to has affected our live somehow otherwise what's the point in writing to them?

Trace of personality?

What do people advise for showing anything personality-related in a letter? Obviously the letter is about the celebrity being written to, but for it to be personal it would make sense to say how a certain role really affected you or something, right? I just don't know where I should stop after mentioning that; I'm not sure what would be short of complaining about how much my life sucks unless I'm watching them in a particular role or whatever...I'm not very good with letters. Clearly.

Thank you for the tips! I am an avid Desmond Harrington fanatic, and have been wanting to write him for such a long time. I just found his address today, and am happy that I will now have a chance to send him cards on his birthday, and let him know how much he has inspired me, and that I support him. I will definetly follow these tips! Thanks for posting them'; I will share them with those looking to write a celebrity.
