I’ve had a look at the US Postal Service website and from what I can make out, you just have a first class mail service, which will carry letters up to 13 ounces.

Up to…

1oz - $0.37
2oz - $0.60
30z - $0.83
And so on…..

Its says you add an extra $0.23 for each additional ounce the letter weighs. One ounce is about 30g, and I would say that one of my outgoing letters maybe weighs slightly more than that, but the incoming letter is lighter. That’s just an estimate though, so you should probably weigh the letter you’re sending on some kitchen scales or something, then you will know for sure.

The are a couple of conditions if the letters weigh less than an ounce....

When I send an 9x12 US to US I put a 60 cent stamp on. That way I am wasting no money...every penny counts! At a US post office you can buy a sheet of 20 60 cent stamps for $12.50 which is what I usually do.
