Steps we have to take to save fanmail.biz

Unread post by brighton_4eva »

Hello Guys,
We all know this site is going ( excuse my language ) " Tits Up " and we need to question admin on this - maybe we should get a Autograph Expert to put forward a selection of questions for admin to answer. - maybe admin might take more notice if Zanne, Andy or Jason PM'd?

Or another suggestion is how about we create an auto site all together chip in a donation ( if needed ) and start up and build a site which can be as good as this one and to get rid of all the spammers.

I just think fanmail.biz is too comercialised and Admin does not care about the users, or anyone he is just interesting in the revenue he gets from advertising. {down}

I would like to know what you think,

Sam

P.S. - I am curious to know as to how many people have thought of quitting fanmail.biz due to crashing and an admin that doesnt care.

In my opinion this site is getting emptier by the day. It's like everyone is giving up on it. I can understand why though with the amount it crashes each day. I even signed up to another autograph forum myself yesterday just in case this one did end up closing down.
I don't see how making a new site is going to stop spammers though, surely it would be just as easy for them to spam any other site as it is this one.
But yeah I agree that someone with more authority should get in touch with admin. He needs to listen to us and respect our views. This hobby means a lot to us and so does this site, we hate to see it all going downhill like this.

I'm not sure how much spam this forum actually gets, but installing anti-spam mods are usually enough to prevent the majority of it. Though, I suppose whatever precautions you take, phpBB will always be spam-prone.

prefer the term 'belly up', lmao.
is it true that admin unbanned a bunch of people?
if so then i do believe the site is going downhill because of admins lack of care

Admin banned everyone ever banned 4-5 times. He also made shaun un-ban-able.

Admin ignores everyone, so having good users would make no difference.

So anyone donations? :D I would anyways.

Ads? What ads? And please, don't force me to turn off my AdBlock :))

Really, this site is going to shit with shaun still around, ppl being unbanned and spammers roaming unchecked. The problem with the spammers can be solved easily, the fact that admin is apparently barely interested in our opinions cannot.

Setting up a new site is easy - transferring the address database is not.

Yeah i'm pretty sure this site was made from mad fanmail.biz users.
But no addresses  , or I'm to stupid to find it.

Hey guys :)

First of all, it is actually really disappointing if this site does go down. And we're forced to make a new one, because of what Reav said, the this site has over 50 000 addresses (according to the homepage) I'm really sure it's much more than 50 000 now actually. When and if we do manage to transfer the addresses, the feedbacks and information e.g. the topic about the shows in Broadway (which is really useful) will have to be transferred there as well. Also, newer members won't as easily be convinced that an address is valid because we'll be starting at 0 feedbacks for all of the addresses. Unless of course we transfer those too :? .

I think setting up a new site is a good idea to get rid of whatever problems with spammers etc. that this site has, not all of the problems, but a lot of them. However, it's so much work to transfer the entire database. So I think it should be the last resort. My opinion is we should definately come to this only if we really need to.

As a database and a place to find information about getting celebritie's autographs, it's great, and I've come to be really familiar with this site. That's why it's such a huge disappointment if it does fail. :(

why not have all of us set up a poll asking if we want to make a new website, which all of us would help make, and have it be similar to this one? I think its a good idea and f enough people go and click yes on the poll we could start one.

A lot of members have left, or are leaving, or are spending more time here -> http://s10.zetaboards.com/SAC06/index/ -> why? It doesnt go down ever, unlike this place that goes down daily. It has an admin that actually cares, and it doenst put up with fakes/scammers etc, and doesnt have the freeloaders that this place has. I recommend it if anyone's looking for an alternative. Plus it has a database thats in the process of being filled in (obviously this is no easy job!). All in, a great site, worth checking it out. :)
